The Haunted Room A Tale eBook A L O E
This book is well-written and a pleasure to read, even for adults even though it is directed toward young people. The story is credible and the "haunted room" is not what one would at first think. The main characters must deal with various crises that challenge them, and their decisions determine whether they remain in their faults or whether they grow toward a more becoming maturity, toward facing what is in "the haunted room". In a way one can say that this is merely a kind of "Christian endeavor" tale, and it is frankly Christian, but it is much more than that and anyone, Christian or not, can appreciate the lessons the writer is imparting. The style of writing of course belongs to Victorian times, but is still perfectly lucid. A further plus for me is that the author uses the subjunctive tense as it should be used and which nowadays is unfortunately disappearing, to the detriment of clarity. The author, A.L.O.E. [Charlotte Maria Tucker, 1821-1893] wrote other works as well and they are also good reads, again with a Christian flavor but still much more besides so that all, regardless of religion or lack of same, can enjoy them.Product details

The Haunted Room A Tale eBook A L O E Reviews
...very good reading for those loving mysteries, freight, and fear!
I truly enjoyed this book.
One of the best fiction books I have ever read! The author keeps suspense throughout her story, and her writings make the reader stop and think about their own lives and the sins that so easily beset them. I would definitely read it again!!
A piercing analogy forcing and encouraging the reader to examine him/herself for the sin which besets him/her. An exciting and quick read that impacts and stirs the soul.
It was an okay story, but a bit too slow for me, and a bit different. The characters were likeable It was still a good read.
It's a good, clean, old fashioned mystery story. The dialog is a little stilted, but I suppose that was typical of something written in 1900. it also has a good lesson in Godliness and how three young people learn from how to grow out of various weaknesses.
This started out a little bit scary and my 9 year old asked me to stop reading for a while. We picked it up again when I explained the antagonist was trying to scare people by making up ghost stories we were able to continue and I'm so glad we did! Each of the three main characters had to face sin issues in their life ranging from fear, to pride, to selfishness. They didn't take these sins very seriously until it was almost too late. Very exciting right up until the end and I love the suspense of these Lamplighter novels. My children, 9 and 13 also loved this story. Lots of great scriptures mixed throughout to meditate on and to help us all uncover some of the hidden rooms in our hearts that God is working on through the process of sanctification.
