To go backpacking around Asia on crutches three weeks after having surgery to repair a smashed-up foot was, at the least, ill-advised, foolhardy, and a potential recipe for disaster, if not just plain stupid.

This is the first ever review of a book in my life, A friend recommended this book to me a while back .As I had traveled in Asia before . So I bought it and didn't want to put it down until I had read it all
Its about a guy, Bill, who with his wife, Anita who with his ankle injured after a fall and an operation on said ankle, decide to go on they're planned holiday to Thailand ,Cambodia and vietnam. This true story will take you to very beautiful places you will meet Kind friendly people , you will laugh with them and you will shed a tear or two with them . As you follow Bill and Anita's journey and see how they overcome everyday obstacles on their journey through South East Asia The struggles that they have to deal with and not only physical ones. And all through this there is Bill's wife Anita who not only goes on a long backpacking tour with her Husband but encourages him all along the way ,even with her own things going on .
This book was beautifully written with plain talking English , I think this will be the book that you will see, in the hostals,cafes, train stations or any where else you will see Back packers mingling , if you are planning a trip to S.A.Asia in the near future . because this book is sure to one of those, Must read books of our time. Buy it ,Enjoy it.
I found this book a compulsive read (I'm reading it for the second time now), the feeling of expectant travel moved me on and kept the pages turning! Bill's gentle humour and fatalistic optimism are a lesson to me,,, I tend to over-organise and I curse when things go astray!
In a small way I have experienced the friendly curiosity of others that goes with traveling while incapacitated, although I only ripped off my big toenail in India (motorbike!), having a bandaged big toe sticking out of my sandals was enough to arouse sympathy and help, not to mention the comedy value!!! The huuuge grin on the face of a young Indian girl on a train when she saw the smiley face I'd drawn on my bandage will never leave me, it was like the sun coming out!
What Bill has done is write a travel book but it's more than that he's told a tale of places and people that takes you there, even if you've never traveled far. And if you've already been traveling I bet this will rekindle the best of memories!
